Subject:Songs For A New World
Time:02:03 am
Hey

I've been working (producing/directing/being in) a production of Songs For A New World at my school for about a year and a half now- and its finally coming together. Today we had a rehearsal with Brent Crayon, the pianist who played for the Rubicon theatre's production of Songs For A New World in Ventura. He's agreed to play for our production as well! He's been working us the last few days on the whole show, and all the things that JRB had told him and stuff like that. Very exciting.

ANYWAYS- thought you all might want to see this. Its the end of Hear My Song, the closing number from the show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0W4M9a2RGDw

If you're in the southern CA area, It's at Agoura High School May 5th and 6th at 7:00 and also May 6th at 2:00. I'll post a flyer with more info later if you like!

Tell me what you think, im really excited that it's finally coming together.

Hey, my name is Leora, and I have a problem. I am obsessed with Jason Robert Brown. I love everything he's done, and I especially love the fact that he made the Leo Frank case into a musical. I've been called Leo for the past 4 years, and in my freshman year in high school (I am now a junior), we were going to do Parade. I got a little freaked when someone first said "Leo dies at the end...yeah, Leo's hung"...but then I heard a little about the plot, and thought it sounded good. Then we ended up doing Ragtime...well, as a fundraiser, a senior did Songs, and I saw it every night they did it. I fell madly in love with the show and immediately got the CD, the selections, and the full score...hehehe...about three months later, a friend burned my parade, and I cried at the end. I loved his music so much that I ran out and spent my last 20 bucks on the Last 5 Years. Since then I have also gotten Lauren Kennedy's CD, which has a few tracks from Jason Robert Brown and a couple with him singing. He is my favorite composer of all time, followed only by the late Jonathan Larson...
I actually wanted to know if he's doing anything new...does anyone know?

Alright, so my friend just IMd me and told me that someone that he used to go to school with is playing the lead in the demo for JRB's new show. I believe (after hearing him talk about it at the Jazz Au Bar concert and the kid being 14 years old) that it's the show called "Thirteen." Well, at least that's what he said at the concert. I can't wait to hear it and will pass along any information that I hear!! Has anyone else heard anything? This community has been pretty slow lately.

This is a very inactive community...  I've been reading the entries, and finally decided to join this community.

Jason Robert Brown is an amazing composer, as I'm sure you all know, otherwise why would you be in this community.

sucrets4  was actually the person who got me addicted to JRB in about June.  She burned me The Last Five Years, and that night I went home and memorized the words.  I have since then addicted other people to The Last Five Years.  And as of yesterday, I now have my own cd instead of a burned copy.  We were in the city seeing Avenue Q and we stopped in a store that sold Broadway items.  There were only 2 copies of The Last Five Years.  The first one I got was cracked, so I switched it for the other one.  Jason Robert Brown is great!

So, I have recently acquired lovely videos of the Chicago and NY productions. As I was watching the Chicago production, of course all the differences in the lyrics stood out to me (and the fact that "I Could Be In Love With Someone" is still in it, replacing Shiksa Goddess), but it gets to the book reading and IT'S DIFFERENT!!! I did my best at transcribing it, but there were a few things that I just couldn't make out. Please comment if you have any changes. Thanks.

Enjoy!

Her father hadn't played the piano for years, I guess since the war, but she determined to buy him a piano for the new apartment. She reasoned that she wouldn't need to buy a very good piano, since her father referred to himself as just a 'saloon player'; maybe a little spinnet so he can bang out some Irving Berlin or Cole Porter, like he must have in his younger days.

She saw a classified ad for a small console, just refurbished, for 300 dollars, and...that sounded about right to her. She went and looked at the piano and the owner played her some little classical thing, something she recognized, but she really couldn't tell whether the piano was any good or not, or else he would feel right to her(?). And she gave the man 300 dollars and an extra 50 to deliver it to her father's apartment.

She got to his apartment on his birthday a half hour before the piano was supposed to arrive and she was unable to concentrate on anything her father said. When the piano finally came, 15 minutes late but that was fine, her father was overcome with surprise and a wide smile crossed his face. She helped the man move the piano against the wall, right underneath the picture of her mother. When her father came over, he just ran his thin, pale hand slowly over the wood, lifting and releasing the music rack, twisting the knobs on the lid. Tears filled her eyes. And she forgot to put down a tip when she walked through the other door that night(?).

She came to the apartment again two months later with a stack of sheet music she found at a flea market. When she put the music in the piano bench, she looked up and saw that her father had placed photographs of his children and grandchildren on top of the lid. And she realized that he had not lifed the lid to play since the day the piano arrived.

If you didn't know her very well, you would hardly have noticed the clippy replies in her conversation, the mutterings under her breath, the speed with which she finished eating, the force with which she threw her silverware in the sink.

Wow, I am so happy to have stumbled on this little corner of LJ....now I can combine 2 of my fave things - JRB and LJ!!! Lol.

I am a huge fan....saw him at the Jazz Au Bar in April and loved every second of it. I am a middle school music teacher and am now turning my kids on to him as well.

So, yeah, he is amazing and I want to have his babies. That's it.

:-)
